The novel follows the adventures of Professor Otto Lidenbrock, a brilliant and eccentric scientist, and his nephew Axel Lidenbrock. One day, while examining a rare manuscript, Professor Lidenbrock discovers a coded message written by an Icelandic alchemist from the 16th century, Arne Saknussemm. The message claims to reveal a passage to the center of the Earth through a volcano in Iceland.
Fueled by curiosity and scientific zeal, Professor Lidenbrock and Axel embark on a daring expedition to Iceland, where they enlist the help of their guide, Hans Belker, an experienced and unflappable Icelandic hunter. Together, they descend into the depths of the Earth following the path described in Saknussemm's message.
Their journey takes them through a series of incredible underground landscapes, including vast caverns, subterranean forests, and underground seas. Along the way, they encounter various prehistoric creatures and face numerous challenges and dangers. They also make important geological and paleontological discoveries.
As the expedition continues, the travelers push deeper into the Earth, facing dwindling supplies and the ever-present threat of being trapped underground forever. The novel builds tension as they strive to find a way back to the surface while unraveling the mysteries of the subterranean world.
